Ok, so like the other 50,000,000 people across the world last night, I was watching the announcement from Lebron when he said that he's going to Miami. I'm a Cleveland fan just as much as the next man, so of course I wish he had decided to stick around in Cleve for a few more years. I wish him luck in this new part of his career, and hopefully he will find the championship he's looking for there.
What gets me is some people just forgot all the good stuff James did for Cleveland for the last seven years. He went to a team that was renowned for not winning games. Remember what happened the last two seasons? Sure there was no championship, but would you like to go back? I've been in towns where the team just sucks, and, well, it sucks, so be grateful Cleveland.
What prompts this line of thought is the letter from Dan Gilbert. Check this out. This is loyalty?
"You simply don't deserve this kind of cowardly betrayal"
"The self-declared former "King" will be taking the "curse" with him down south. And until he does "right" by Cleveland and Ohio, James (and the town where he plays) will unfortunately own this dreaded spell and bad karma."
"I PERSONALLY GUARANTEE THAT THE CLEVELAND CAVALIERS WILL WIN AN NBA CHAMPIONSHIP BEFORE THE SELF-TITLED FORMER ‘KING’ WINS ONE"
Wow. That's harsh. Nothing by way of Thank You to the King? What about the one finals appearance? How about those two 60 win seasons? Cleveland had a great team but it would have been nothing without Lebron. I'm excited to see how Gilbert will put together this team that's supposedly going to dethrone the King and the Heat. Who are they going to build around?
Look, all I'm saying is that Lebron has to live his life the way that he feels is best. (personally, I wouldn't have turned down the Heat either. what a lineup!) He can't base these things on what other people think, the ultimate decision is what will be best for him and his family. Apparently he has decided that Miami is the best choice right now. Let the man choose his career. We all love what he did for Cleveland, but it's time for him to move on.
I understand why people would be hurt by this, seeing as how Lebron meant almost everything to his city and his team. He's an icon. Everybody wants to be a basketball star now. That's a loss that won't be replaced easily.
But let's not hold it against him Cleveland. I wish he stayed, just like you, but don't give him flack for that. He really doesn't deserve that after seven years of highlight reels. Lots of the "greats" have moved on with their lives. Lebron is simply doing the same.
